Time for an Update! – added 24th June 2010

There have been a few significant events since the last update:

Uluru

An amazing & life-changing trip to Uluru to meet and spend quality time with the incredible Uncle Bob Randall. This inspiring and deeply wise man is a traditional elder of the land in and around Uluru and is a humble role-model to us all. A member of the Stolen Generation and one of the pioneers of the Aboriginal people, I look forward to commencing work on his portrait.

The Dreaming Festival

Exhibiting a complete body of artwork at the memorable Dreaming Festival was both exciting and so very rewarding with the richness of connections made with the genuine and beautiful people we met. It was humbling to receive so much positive feedback from viewers and very encouraging to continue to share my dream with you all.

Doug Moran Art Prize Entry

I have entered ‘Working Progress’ (Mick Dodson) into the Doug Moran Portrait Prize.

Entry into Telstra Art Awards - added April 12th 2010

This painting is titled “Tomorrow’s Dreaming” and is about seeing our
Indigenous Children as symbols of growth and adaptation as they carry the past into the future by holding onto a strong sense of Identity, belonging and connectedness with their culture.

Children were used in this painting specifically to express their joy and innocence to represent the hope of moving forward without carrying the shame and hurt of the past.

These children must never forget what has taken place in the past.  But as they become teachers of tomorrow through their experiences of today it is a responsibility of us all to protect, foster and ensure that those experiences are positive and optimistic as they go on to create a world in which fairness and equality are an integral part.

Tomorrow’s Dreaming is about re-establishing the innocence and joy within our people’s hearts and sharing and walking that journey together.

Won the Drawing Together award!

My work was recently entered into the Drawing Together art competition in Canberra.

I won the Indigenous Employees Award

It was a nervous experience as I had never entered an art competition on such a grand scale like that before.  Feel like I am on the right path and this is conformation of my life’s purpose.  Especially when I realize that there were 571 entrants..

Heres a photo sharing this moment. If you want to see more photos from that event, click here.
