“To me he is a man of great inspiration and strength, something that I have drawn upon throughout the challenges in my own life. I chose to paint this portrait as to show the significance of the connection between Aboriginal people and the land – the core of our culture. As the ochre dot work and it’s various contours could be viewed as a topographical view of a vast area of land, while at the same time they also make up the form of a strong, proud warrior as he gazes as our ancestors did for tens of thousands of years, looking out over the country with the glow of the fire on his back.” Jandamarra Cadd.
